Lugano and Ridgewell among four to leave West Brom

West Bromwich Albion have released four senior players, including Uruguay international defender Diego Lugano and first-choice left-back Liam Ridgewell, BBC Sport has reported.

Lugano, who will be at the World Cup this summer, has left after just one season, during which he largely served as back-up to Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson. Ridgewell, 29, spent three years with Albion, scoring two goals in 78 appearances.

Also leaving are long-serving duo Zoltan Gera and Steven Reid, after the club decided not to renew either player’s contract. Gera had initially been released last summer, but came back for a third spell after proving his fitness to then Head Coach Steve Clarke.

Each of West Brom’s five loan players – Morgan Amalfitano, Scott Sinclair, Goran Popov, Thievy Bifouma and Matej Vydra – have returned to their parent clubs, while vice-captain Chris Brunt has been offered a new deal along with fellow midfielder Graham Dorrans.

West Brom are also looking for a new Head Coach, having parted company with Pepe Mel on Monday after only four months in charge.
