Mourinho: No new signings until after World Cup

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that he will wait until after the World Cup before making any new signings this summer, Sky Sports is reporting.

The West London club have been heavily linked with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, as well as midfielder Sami Khedira, who currently plays for Atletico’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid, Mourinho’s former club.

Mourinho has already stated that he is looking for a new centre forward after a poor goals return from Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres this season, while the Portuguese has already begun preparing for 2014-15, handing a new contract to captain John Terry, while left-back Ashley Cole is almost certain to leave.

And speaking to Sky Sports News, Mourinho insisted that all his transfer business will take place after the World Cup in Brazil. He said: “Since the market will be open until 31st August, like it is, I think it will be more of the same. I think people (will) wait for the World Cup, wait for the first reaction of the first team, wait until after something happens.

“At Chelsea, the manager is the same, the basic structure of the team is the same, we don’t need the season to finish and the results of the season make the decisions about what we need and what we don’t need. Everything was done during the season, we knew perfectly what we wanted and I don’t think we have huge work to do during the summer really.”
