Jose Mourinho will present an end of season report to owner Roman Abramovich on Monday – detailing how his Chelsea side can improve heading into next season, reports the Telegraph.
The Portuguese also lost his impressive record at Stamford Bridge this season – previously unbeaten in 77 home league games, before relegation fighting Sunderland won 2-1, somewhat derailing Chelsea’s own title push in the process.
But despite turning into a largely underwhelming campaign – Mourinho’s first stint in charge saw a league and cup double in his first season, he believes that the side he took over has shown improvements.
“Last year Chelsea were out of the title race by November,” Mourinho said. “But this season we fought until it was mathematically impossible, which was two fixtures from the end.
“We couldn’t get through the group phase of the Champions League last season and we were relegated to the Europa League, and this season we went to the semi-finals.
“It’s not the kind of season that Chelsea celebrates, but we knew when the season started it was possible this was going to happen.”
The report is likely to discuss the futures of the old guard players John Terry, Frank Lampard, and Ashley Cole who all find themselves out of contract come the end of the current season, while loaned out stars Romelu Lukaku and and Thibault Courtois is also included.
