Napoli are hoping to sign on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina on a permanent basis over the summer, Sky
Reina made the move to Italy back in August after being told that he was to be replaced as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper by Simon Mignolet, and since his reunion with Rafael Benitez, he has helped Napoli to third place in Serie A, the last 16 of the Europa League, and to success in the Coppa Italia, which they won on Saturday.
And with the Spaniard unlikely to regain his place at Anfield should he return despite having two years left on his contract, a move to Naples on a permanent basis now looks a likely prospect, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers confirming that he does not see a future for Reina at Liverpool, for whom he signed in 2005.
The Italian club’s sporting director, Riccardo Bigon admitted that they would like to have Reina back. He told +N tv: “Reina is a very important player both on the field and off. At the end of the season we will talk with him and Liverpool, we are interested to hold him here.
“He has been fine in Naples, he has a very close relationship with the coach (Rafa Benitez) and also his family has settled very well.”
