Cardiff City could see themselves relegated from the Premier League after just one season if they lose at Newcastle United and other results go against them.
Followers of the hosts have made their feelings clear in recent weeks, leading to growing calls for manager Alan Pardew to be sacked after five straight defeats. The most recent of those came at Arsenal on Monday, where they again offered little as an attacking threat, but victory here will at least ease the tension which has engulfed St. James’ Park, though ill feeling towards Pardew will remain regardless.
Despite Newcastle’s problems of late, they lie in the top half, a position that Cardiff would love to be in. This is their last chance of making an unlikely bid to stay in the Premier League, but their hopes now look to be dwindling after a chastening afternoon on Wearside, where they were thrashed by relegation rivals Sunderland. But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will continue to believe that his side are capable.
Davide Santon and Papiss Cisse continue to be out for Newcastle, but Luuk De Jong, Shola Ameobi and Hatem Ben Arfa will all be pushing for recalls.
The visitors will be without defender Juan Cala after his sending off at Sunderland. Ben Turner is likely to take his place.
