Pellegrini expects Man City to win title

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said that he expects his side to go on and win the Premier League title after they beat Aston Villa 4-0 on Wednesday to move to within touching distance, reports the Guardian.

For a second success in three years, City will only need a point when they host West Ham United on Sunday and Brendan Rodgers, manager of fellow title hopefuls Liverpool, has already conceded the league to Man City.

The Etihad Stadium club had to be patient against a defensively-minded Villa, who held them out until midway through the second half when Edin Dzeko netted from close range after being set up by Pablo Zabaleta.

The floodgates then opened as Dzeko grabbed the second with an opportunist’s finish, with Stevan Jovetic’s low shot and a fine solo goal from Yaya Toure completing the eventual rout.

Afterwards, Pellegrini told of his belief that his team will secure the title on Sunday. He said: “Of course I expect to win the title because now we are top of the table. It is the last game. Win the next game and we can win the title.”

“Now we can talk about the title because if we win the next game we are going to win it. We could not do the same before this game because we had to beat Aston Villa. I think it will be very important, not only the title but in the way we are going to win the title if finally we win it.

“We have a style of play. I think we are an attractive team, we score many goals and we are always thinking to score more goals. That to me has the same importance as winning the title. The way we play the whole season, I hope we will play the next game the same way. I am very happy to manage this team this way.”
