However, they have already been dealt a blow by Reus, who insists that he does not expect to leave Dortmund this summer despite having a £29.4m buy-out clause in his contract. He said: “It’s safe to say I will be playing for Borussia Dortmund also in the 2014-15 season.
‘Basically I do not need to stress all the time that I am feeling great being with the club. As far as leaving [Borussia Dortmund] that is no issue for me, and I am not affected by the transfer release clause.”
Moving to Man Utd will mean that Reus will miss out on Champions League – and indeed European – football for at least one season. The 24-year-old finished the Bundesliga season with 16 goals and 14 assists in his 30 appearances.
