Reus to reject Man Utd move

Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Marco Reus is set to commit his future to the club and reject the chance to join Manchester United over the summer, according to the Independent.

Man Utd are set for a radical overhaul of the playing staff over the close-season and are set to spend heavily on several transfer targets, with Southampton defender Luke Shaw and Reus’ Dortmund teammate Mats Hummels rumoured to feature highly on their list of transfer targets.

However, they have already been dealt a blow by Reus, who insists that he does not expect to leave Dortmund this summer despite having a £29.4m buy-out clause in his contract. He said: “It’s safe to say I will be playing for Borussia Dortmund also in the 2014-15 season.

‘Basically I do not need to stress all the time that I am feeling great being with the club. As far as leaving [Borussia Dortmund] that is no issue for me, and I am not affected by the transfer release clause.”

Moving to Man Utd will mean that Reus will miss out on Champions League – and indeed European – football for at least one season. The 24-year-old finished the Bundesliga season with 16 goals and 14 assists in his 30 appearances.
