Tottenham need just a point against Aston Villa to guarantee a Europa League place for next season in what looks set to be the final game in charge for Head Coach Tim Sherwood.
At the start of the season, qualification for the Champions League was the minimum aim after spending £108m on transfers over the summer, but after a turbulent and at times tumultuous season at White Hart Lane, they would welcome the second prize of a place in Europe’s slightly less prestigious competition. And if this is his last game, Sherwood will hope his side can give him the perfect send-off.
Given that a victory over Hull City had guaranteed their safety, Aston Villa’s lack of ambition at Manchester City on Wednesday came as something of a surprise. Paul Lambert is another manager who faces an uncertain future after a disappointing season which has resulted in little progress being made. With the side continually plagued by inconsistency, the supporters are now beginning to lose faith with the Scot.
Younes Kaboul is unavailable for Tottenham after his sending off at West Ham United. Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker are both out, while Jan Vertonghen is unlikely to be risked.
Aston Villa could continue with Jordan Bowery in attack, with Gabriel Agbonlahor still a slight doubt. Marc Albrighton is also an injury concern.
