Chelsea eye Diego Costa agreement within a week

Chelsea could confirm the impending transfer of Spain striker Diego Costa by the end of the week, according to the Telegraph, after the forward returned to training ahead of the World Cup for his country.

Having returned to training with the Spain squad the path is now clear for Costa to undergo a medical in West London and complete the signing of their £35m hit man.

Costa had suffered a hamstring injury which hindered the end of his season, and ultimately saw him last just nine minutes before limping out of the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the front man but were sweating on the player’s fitness after both parties were keen to seal the move before the start of the World Cup next week.

The move will see Demba Ba likely to leave Stamford Bridge after finding opportunities hard to come by, while Samuel Eto’o also leaves on a free after his one year deal was not renewed.

But it is thought Fernando Torres wants to remain at the club and fight Costa for a starting berth.
