Diego Costa has said Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world and he has always wanted to play in the Premier League, Spanish publication AS
The Spain and Atletico Madrid forward also confirmed he is to complete a move to Stamford Bridge soon, and touched on how he feels having been booed by the Brazilian fans for choosing to represent Spain, rather than Brazil, the country of his birth.
“Why did I choose to sign for Chelsea? It’s going to happen,” he said. “It’s all about taking my career in the right direction. If all goes well, that’s where I’ll be next season. I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League and Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world, so there were a lot of reasons that led me to make my decision.”
Costa added that he knows he’ll need to get used to a new style of football but promised to knuckle down and do what was needed. “Each season is different but none are easy,” Costa continued. “I’m going to have to work hard to adapt to the style of the Premier League.”
On the reaction of the locals to seeing Costa wearing the Red of Spain, the Atleti man was philosophical. “I’ve got the right to choose [who to play for] and fans can decide to boo of not,” he said. “When you’re on the pitch you don’t think of these things. I saw it coming and my head is ready for it.”
Costa began his professional career at Braga and has spent time at Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo, helping Atleti to the Spanish title last season and the Champions League final. He previously played twice for Brazil in friendlies before making his Spain debut earlier this year.
