Olivier Giroud is ready to fight for his place at Arsenal and admitted the Gunners need another striker next season, ESPN
Giroud was largely Arsenal’s only centre-forward last season and responded with 22 goals but expects to be challenged in the coming campaign. The France striker, preparing for the World Cup in Brazil, said after Les Bleus’ 8-0 win over Jamaica that he is ready for the fight.
“I can tell you Arsenal will add a striker to the team,” he said. “We need another striker. Great clubs have several good strikers, who compete with each other.”
Carlos Vela is expected to return to the club this summer, having scored 16 goals in 34 games for La Liga side Real Sociedad last season. He previously scored 11 goals in 64 appearances for the club, mostly as a substitute.
Giroud, meanwhile, has netted 39 goals in 98 games since a 2012 move from Montpellier, having helped his old club to the Ligue 1 title in his final year in the division. Giroud also played a role as Arsenal claimed a first trophy in nine years in May, winning the FA Cup.
