Manchester United appear to set to miss out on Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos after the player stated that he wants to join Real Madrid when his contract expires next summer, reports the Daily
Rivals Chelsea were also said to be in the running to sign the German international, but now may be forced to turn their attention to other targets, despite having already beaten United to the signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.
Kroos has already confirmed that he will stay at Bayern for one more season and then leave when his contract comes to an end, raising hopes from Man Utd over a potential future deal. However, the 24-year-old has now set his sights on a move to the Spanish capital, which will represent a blow to new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, who had made Kroos his main target after missing out on Fabregas.
Bayern are unwilling to sell Kroos this summer for a fee in principle, and a Real Madrid source told the Spanish Daily Marca: “It’s impossible with Bayern. The same thing happened to us with Ribery, it was hopeless. Above all, it’s down to the mentality of German clubs. He’ll have to see his contract out.”
