Manchester United are to complete the £28.4m signing of Athletic Bilbao playmaker Ander Herrera on Tuesday subject to a medical, according to the Daily
After talks were held between the two parties on Monday, Herrera is on his way to London to complete a medical after agreeing terms on a four-year contract worth around £50,000 per week. He is now set to become the first new signing of the Louis van Gaal era at Old Trafford.
Predecessor David Moyes made Herrera one of his main transfer targets last summer, only for the club to refuse to pay his buyout clause. They have since monitored the Spamiard’s progress, however, and have made their move in the knowledge that his buyout clause is due to rise again at the end of June.
This is the first of many signings expected from Man Utd over the summer, with fellow midfielder Kevin Strootman reportedly among their list of targets. Herrera is admired by van Gaal, and the Dutchman has given the go-ahead for the Red Devils to complete the deal. In three years with Athletic Bilbao, he has scored 11 goals and made 20 assists in his 128 outings.
