Pepe Reina has said he doesn’t know what his future is at Liverpool as manager Brendan Rodgers hasn’t spoken with him, ESPN
Reina left Anfield for a season-long loan spell with Napoli, under former Reds boss Rafael Benitez, but with the deal now up, it’s unclear Reina will return to Merseyside or be allowed to leave.
“I’ve not spoken to Rodgers and I don’t know what they think but I have a contract and in the end that is what counts,” Reina said. “I have to join up with Liverpool and there’s nothing more I can do.
“I don’t know about my future. I want to be calm about it and there are people who are working on that. I have two years left on my Liverpool contract and the situation is the same as a month ago.”
Reina has previously written an open letter to Liverpool fans in which he said goodbye to the club’s supporters, Rodgers suggested at the time. The 31-year-old moved to Liverpool in 2005 and could join Napoli for £4.2m, according to the terms of the deal, but it’s felt his wages have priced the Serie A side out of the move.
He made 41 appearances for Napoli last season and has almost 400 games for Liverpool under his belt, having also played for Villarreal and Barcelona, starting his career at Camp Nou.
