Shaw wants more after England exit

Southampton defender Luke Shaw is looking to the future after making his first World Cup appearance during England’s goalless draw with Costa Rica, Sky Sports has reported.

Shaw made his senior international bow in February against Denmark and was named in the squad for Brazil at the expense of the experienced Ashley Cole. Shaw had to play second fiddle to Everton’s Leighton Baines for the Three Lions’ first two games but got the nod to play Costa Rica, with England already eliminated.

“It was amazing to be playing in the world’s biggest tournament,” Shaw said. “I don’t want to stop here, I want to keep getting better and better,” he continued. “I was focused on winning the game but sadly we couldn’t do that. We have to take our chances. It would have been a massive downfall to go home with zero points.”

Shaw has made 67 appearances for Southampton, without scoring, playing 38 times for the Saints last season as Mauricio Pochettino’s side ended the campaign in eighth place.
