Tottenham boss Pochettino keen on Espanyol’s Moreno

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has set his sights on bringing Espanyol central defender Hector Moreno to White Hart Lane this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Moreno has impressed for Mexico so far at the World Cup, helping the Central American side to clean sheets against Cameroon and hosts Brazil in their opening two games. Pochettino knows him well, having signed him while manager of the Spanish club.

That could give Tottenham the advantage in the race for the 26-year-old, with Premier League rivals Everton, Southampton and Swansea City all having shown an interest in recent months. A fee of around £7m is likely to be enough to tempt Espanyol into a sale.

Pochettino is yet to make a signing since being appointed Spurs boss in May, but is expected to make radical changes to the defence with long-serving duo Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul tipped to leave this summer along with former Steaua Bucharest man Vlad Chiriches.

Should they miss out Moreno, they may turn their focus on to signing a left-back, with Argentina’s Marcos Rojo among those linked with a move to North London. In his three years with Espanyol, Moreno has scored six goals in 110 appearances.
