Tottenham are set to make a £3m bid for Sunderland defender John O’Shea, who is about to enter the final year of his contract, the Daily
Captain Michael Dawson is surplus to requirements and has been told that he is free to leave Spurs this summer, and in terms of a replacement, they have been impressed by O’Shea’s versatility, as he can play anywhere across the back four.
Sunderland are hoping to keep O’Shea, but are yet to offer him a new deal. Should terms not be agreed between the two parties, they could be open to selling the Irishman instead of seeing him leave for nothing at the end of next season.
New manager Mauricio Pochettino is so far yet to add to his squad since taking over the reins at White Hart Lane, although he has an interest in bringing former defender Steven Caulker back to the club, as well as making a bid to sign striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
Having spent most of his career at Manchester United, winning several trophies, O’Shea joined Old Trafford teammate Wes Brown in moving to Sunderland in the summer of 2011. In the three seasons since, he has made 112 appearances, scoring three goals.
