Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Southampton full-back Calum Chambers for a fee believed to be in the region of £16m, according to BBC
The 19-year-old underwent a medical in North London on Friday, and now looks set to become the latest player to leave the St. Mary’s Stadium this summer, with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw having already departed for big-name clubs, while Dejan Lovren also looks set to move on.
He is also close to following in the footsteps of former Southampton youth products Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in moving to Arsenal and developing their game. Chambers will arrive having played 25 first-team games for the Saints, after he was given his chance last season due to an injury to Nathaniel Clyne.
The Gunners have also enquired about Chambers’ Southampton teammate Morgan Schneiderlin. The deal for Chambers, who can play anywhere across the back four or even in a more advanced role, is likely to see Carl Jenkinson leave the club on loan in order to gain regular football.
