Arsenal striker Joel Campbell has attracted interest from a number of clubs in Serie A, ESPN
A fee of £16m has been mooted and Campbell’s agent confirmed that he has been in touch with representatives from a host of Italian sides. “Italian clubs are after Campbell. Various top-tier clubs often make enquiries,” Ruggero Lacerenza said.
Campbell moved to the Gunners in 2011 but problems with his work permit have meant he hasn’t been able to play for Arsene Wenger’s side. The Costa Rica international has been on loan in France with Lorient, Spain with Real Betis and Greece with Olympiakos, scoring for the latter last season in the Champions League against Manchester United.
Wenger has though suggested Campbell would be in his thoughts for next season after the 22-year-old impressed in helping Costa Rica out of World Cup Group D, beating Uruguay and Italy and drawing with England, and into the tournament’s quarter-finals with a penalty shootout win over Greece.
ESPN add that Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers this summer, including the likes of Colombia’s Jackson Martinez, Italy’s Mario Balotelli and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, as well as Barcelona and Chile forward Alexis Sanchez.
