Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed the club will not be looking to sign a striker this summer after repeatedly being linked with Mario Balotelli throughout the transfer window so far, the Daily
In addition to Balotelli, rumours of a move for Loic Remy and Mario Mandzukic had surfaced in the past month but the French boss has insisted he will not be looking to sign a forward.
Arsenal were left incredibly short upfront last season with Olivier Giroud their main striker – and although he started off in great form appeared to be tiring towards the end of the campaign from shouldering the main goal scoring burden, having played an incredible 51 games last season.
Fans have been craving a new addition to the striking ranks but will have been dealt a blow by their manager’s comments.
The Gunners do have Yaya Sanogo, although he has yet to fully impress, and Joel Campbell who had a fine World Cup – while Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Alexis Sanchez can all be deployed in a more central role.
However Wenger did promise fans the club’s business is yet to be completed, with more signings in the offing.
He said: “It depends whether our midfielders get through now until the start of the season without injuries.
“Up front we don’t need any more, maybe I will still bring in one centre-back. I will bring in a goalkeeper for sure and we are still out there to strengthen our squad.”
While new additions will be welcomed by supporters, Wenger’s refusal to bring in additional strikers could well frustrate the Gunners’ faithful.
