Luis Suarez’s proposed move from Liverpool to Barcelona has been held up by the striker’s appeal against his four-month ban from all football, according to ESPN.
No date has been set for Suarez’s appeal to be heard, although it is expected to be this week and then the move to Spain can go ahead. The exact structure of the deal has also to be agreed between Liverpool and Barca.
Suarez is also, as it stands, banned for eight more international games, having served one of the nine for which he is suspended when Uruguay were eliminated from the World Cup by Colombia at the Round of 16 stage.
It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting – the first came when he was an Ajax player for an incident with Otman Bakkal, but Suarez moved to Liverpool before serving the full duration of his suspension. He was convicted of biting Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013 and banned by the Football Association for 10 games.
