Jose Mourinho has completed his fourth signing of the summer after Chelsea secured the signature of Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid on a three year contract, Sky
The Brazilian full back has been targeted by Mourinho after he decided not to renew the contract of Ashley Cole, who has moved on a free to Italian club Roma, and will give another option in the position after the Portuguese decided to play right back Cesar Azpilicueta there for the majority of last season.
A fee of around £15m is thought to have been paid after it was agreed earlier in the week, with the deal being finalised after other formalities were all agreed upon.
He will join former Atletico Madrid team mate Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Mario Pasalic on the arrivals list at Stamford Bridge and takes the clubs spending to over £70m for the summer – although most of this money was recouped from the sales of Juan Mata last January and David Luiz this summer.
Luis played a crucial part in Atletico’s success last season, making 44 appearances as they won La Liga for the first time since 1996 and reached the Champions League final, being seconds away from beating fierce rivals Real Madrid before losing 4-1 in extra time.
Upon his arrival at Chelsea the defender said: “This move is a dream come true for me. I now have the opportunity to play for Chelsea and also in the Premier League.”
