New Roma signing Ashley Cole has said English players are scared to leave the Premier League, according to the
Cole this week completed a free transfer to Serie A after his contract with Chelsea expired and speaking at a Press conference to confirm his arrival, said more of his countrymen should take the chance to leave England.
“English players are probably scared to come abroad,” the 33-year-old said. “They are in a comfort zone in England, that’s where we grew up, that’s where we played in youth teams.
“As soon as I knew I had the chance to come abroad to come to Italy, to come to this great club, it was something I wanted to do,” Cole continued. “It’s a big opportunity for me to try a different language, culture and way of living. I’m happy with my choice.”
Cole left Chelsea after eight years at the club, making more than 300 appearances for the Blues since a 2006 switch from Arsenal, where he played over 200 times.
He won the Premier League twice with the Gunners and once with Chelsea, as well as the 2012 Champions League, and this summer retired from international duty after missing out on England’s World Cup squad with 107 caps to his name.
