Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis is expected to undergo a medical at Chelsea over the coming days ahead of a proposed move to Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily
After signing Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Luis’ Atletico teammate Diego Costa already this summer, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has turned his attentions to bringing in a new left-back.
Ashley Cole has left the club for Roma this summer, while Ryan Bertrand is expected to leave the club in order to gain regular football. Cesar Azpilicueta filled the left-back position for much of last season, but despite his impressive displays, he is naturally a right-sided player.
Chelsea initially came in with an offer of £16m for Luis, but are now prepared to meet his buyout clause of £20m, and now reports suggest that the 28-year-old is set to complete a medical to help seal the move before the end of July.
Luis has reportedly been ordered by Atletico to train with the reserves after attempting to force through a move to West London, having spent four seasons at the club, winning the La Liga title last season and the 2013 Copa Del Rey. Overall he has made 180 appearances and scored five goals.
