Germany boss Joachim Low has said that victory over Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup could begin several years of his side dominating world football, BBC
Victory for Germany would see them win their first major trophy since 1996, while they would also become the first team ever to win a World Cup in North, Central and South America.
And Low is confident that, with a new generation of players to compliment an already young squad, a win at the Maracana can begin a period of domination for the country on the footballing stage. He said: “We have young players who aren’t even here and other players with a fantastic future such as Ilkay Gundogan, Marco Reus, Mesut Ozil, Andre Schurrle and Thomas Muller.
“They can go on to play for a number of years. We can play on top of the world for a good number of years, with some young players coming in to reinforce the team.”
Low also insisted that his side would not fear Argentina or Lionel Messi in the final. He added: “We don’t have any fear whatsoever. I know it is going to be a match between two teams who have had fascinating duels in the past, in tournaments or friendlies.
“This team is not only about Messi. If you believed it was, you would be making a mistake. They have Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain – it is not a team dependent on Messi.’
