Germany Coach Joachim Low has blamed travel and temperature for a flu scare afflicting his World Cup quarter-finalists, the
Die Mannschaft meet France on Friday having dispatched Algeria earlier this week in the quarter-final. Mats Hummels missed the match with illness and Low has revealed the problem has spread around the players.
“Seven players are slightly ill with flu symptoms,” Low said. “It is not that bad at the moment and it could be partly about air conditioning, the travel, temperature differences. I do not want to make a drama of it. We hope the situation will ease.”
Hummels revealed on one of his social media accounts that he is close to recovery, while former Germany international Andreas Kopke, part of Low’s staff, said midfielder Christoph Kramer has been unwell.
It’s also thought that forward Thomas Muller is struggling as well. Muller has netted four goals in as many games in the tournament, bagging a hat-trick in the Group G opener against Portugal as Germany won 4-0, then scoring the only goal of the game against the United States.
