Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that there is no chance of defender Mats Hummels leaving to join Manchester United this summer, the Daily
The Premier League side have been heavily linked with Hummels in recent weeks, with new boss Louis van Gaal having identified him as a key target. Chief executive Ed Woodward left the pre-season tour of the United States early to focus on the club’s transfer business, but his efforts to sign Hummels have been shunned.
Also ruling out the sale of attacking midfielder Marco Reus, Klopp was adamant that Hummels will be staying at the Westfalenstadion. He said: “I can assure everyone there are no indications that Mats or Marco want to leave.
‘They will be playing for us in the new season. What is the latest rumour – Mats to Manchester United? And for how much – £17 million? For an amount like that you can forget about it straight away.”
Van Gaal won his first friendly in charge 7-0 against Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday evening, but the Dutchman is still looking to overhaul his defensive options. A number of players have been linked, but Luke Shaw is his only capture thus far in that area of the pitch.
