Khedira wage demands set Arsenal back

Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, but should he arrive the German would have to become the club’s highest paid player, according to the Daily Mail.

Khedira would be expected to cost in the region of £24m, but his current contract at the European champions is currently worth £8m per year, which equates to £150,000 per week. Should he earn that salary at the Gunners, it would see him exceed international teammate Mesut Ozil as their top earner.

With manager Arsene Wenger currently looking for a natural defensive midfielder, he is strongly considering making an offer for Khedira, but is also weighing up other options. Bayer Leverkusen star Lars Bender has been a long-term target, although the Bundesliga side are unwilling to sell after recently tying their key player down to new contract.

Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin is in the running, but Khedira may be interested in a move to North London after struggling to gain first-team football in his fourth season at the Bernabeu, but his wage demands could prevent Arsenal from making him a high-profile summer acquisition.
