Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that defender Andre Wisdom is set to move on a season-long loan to West Bromwich Albion, Sky
Wisdom, who can play either as a central defender or as a right-back, spent most of last season on loan at Derby County as they narrowly failed to achieve promotion to the Premier League, losing to a late Queens Park Rangers goal in the play-off final at Wembley.
He initially broke into the Liverpool side in the early part of the 2012-13 season as cover for injured duo Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly, but since then appearances have been rare, and after he featured in Saturday’s 2-1 friendly win over Preston North End, Rodgers revealed that Wisdom was on his way to the Hawthorns.
“After today, Andre is going to go on loan to West Brom,” said the Northern Irishman. “He had a very successful period at Derby last year, he did very well under Steve McClaren.
“He now has the opportunity to go to another very good coach in Alan Irvine, who I know from my youth days. He is an excellent coach and West Brom are an excellent club. He’ll join up with them sooner rather than later and spend the season there on loan. That will be another step for him in his development, playing regularly in the Premier League.”
