The 20-year-old Serbia international could be announced as Liverpool’s latest signing within the next 24 hours as he becomes the fourth addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad this summer.
Markovic helped current club Benfica to win the Portuguese title last season having joined from former team Partizan Belgrade in the summer of 2013.
He will join Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can at Anfield as the club look to strengthen their options following the £75m sale of Luis Suarez, alongside a return to European action in the Champions league.
He played 26 times last season and scored 5 goals, impressing for the Portuguese giants as they dumped Tottenham Hotspur out of the Europa League last season – although he missed the final defeat to Sevilla due to suspension.
He has played 12 games for his country having made his debut as a 17-year-old against Argentina back in 2012, scoring two goals.
