Liverpool have announced the signing of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic Sky
The Serbian international becomes Liverpool’s fourth summer signing after penning what has been described as a “long term deal” by the Anfield club, joining Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana on the arrivals list.
Upon signing the 20-year-old expressed his delight and excitement at the latest challenge in his career.
“I am very happy that I have joined such a great club,” Markovic said.
“I hope that I will fulfil the expectations of the supporters, coaches, players, and all connected to the club.
“I have seen what the players are like, I have seen what the supporters are like, and I cannot wait to start playing here.”
And manager Brendan Rodgers was extremely pleased to have sealed the player’s services for next season, who has won 12 caps for his country already at his young age.
Rodgers hailed the winger’s ability to also play in a number of different attacking positions and that his “hungry” attitude was exactly what the club looked for in players.
He said: “This is an exciting signing for us and one that improves our squad, in terms of attacking options, for the coming season.
“He was hugely impressive for Benfica last season and has proved he has the ability to produce the goods in European competition as well, which will be important for us.”
Markovic played 26 times for Benfica last season including 13 European appearances as he helped the club win the Portuguese title and reach the Europa league final as they exited the Champions League early – impressing as they dumped Tottenham Hotspur out of the competition.
He managed five goals last season.
