Croatian star Dejan Lovren is set to have a medical with Liverpool over the weekend, Sky
Liverpool have already raided the Southampton squad that impressed last season for Adam Lallana and Rickie lambert, and now appear to be closing in on their third addition from the club in a deal worth around £20m.
Lovren only joined the Saints 13 months ago from French club Lyon in a £8.5m switch and impressed in his first season in the Premier League, making 32 appearances for his club.
Speculation has persisted that Lovren was set to leave St Mary’s and there were recent reports the player was considering strike action after a first Liverpool bid was rejected.
However talks seem to have progressed and now the deal looks likely to happen.
When asked whether he expected the defender to depart, new Southampton boss Roland Koeman refused to rule anything out.
“I expect everything,” Koeman said, “Because I know Southampton, I know the possibilities of the biggest club in England, and they had a great season, and it’s normal that you will lose some players.”
The club has already made over £50m in transfer sales from Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, while they could lose Lovren to Liverpool and Callum Chambers nearing a move to Arsenal – pushing their profit sky high.
The club could still see even more departures with midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin the latest to be speculated about.
