Switzerland forward Admir Mehmedi has insisted that his side will not be focussing solely on stopping Lionel Messi when they take on Argentina on Tuesday in the World Cup second round, writes BBC
Messi has inspired Argentina so far at this World Cup, scoring four of his side’s six goals and playing a key role in them winning all of their three group stage matches. All eyes will be on the Barcelona star again when he takes on the Swiss in Sao Paulo.
However, Mehmedi has warned that several other players in the Argentine side are capable of causing problems for his team, who won two of their three games to finish second behind France in Group E.
“With all due respect for his qualities and class, I think too much is talked about just Messi. He is exceptional, no question, but that is not all, he has very good players around him. We will not neglect the preparation nor in the game itself’ he said.
Argentina are aiming to win the World Cup for the third time, while victory for Switzerland on Tuesday would see them reach the quarter-finals for the first time since they hosted the competition in 1954.
