Newcastle United have moved a step closer to making their fifth signing of the transfer window after French striker Emmanuel Riviere arrived in England to have a medical at the club, according to Sky
A £6m fee is thought to have been agreed for the Monaco player and will go a long way to addressing the problem area at the Magpies, having lost strikers Loic Remy, Luuk de Jong and Shola Ameobi since the end of last season.
The club have already sealed deals for midfielders Siem de Jong and Remy Cabella in forward thinking positions in addition to striker Ayoze Perez, along with former Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback.
De Jong in fact played in an advanced role and scored during their 2-1 pre-season defeat to League One side Oldham this week and Pardew hinted he could feature their next season if required.
Riviere’s signature would go some way to rectifying the situation but will unlikely see the end of their pursuit for forwards with Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette another potential target.
The French U21 international found a lot of opportunities at Monaco last season thanks to the injury of Radamel Falcao, playing 30 times and scoring 10 goals.
