Spanish giants Real Madrid are thought to be lining up a shock swoop for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as they look to bolster their striking options ahead of their new season, the Metro has reported.
According to reports in Spain Madrid are weighing up a potential move for the player who has impressed in two season long loan spells at West Brom and Everton, scoring 33 goals in 71 games for the two clubs – but is yet to make a sustained breakthrough at Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho has already seen Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o leave Stamford Bridge this season while purchasing Diego Costa in a big money deal, in addition to the return of former hero Didier Drogba on a one year deal.
Fernando Torres has made it known he wants to stay and fight for a starting berth at the club but it still remains unclear where the future of Lukaku lies.
Madrid on the other hand have seen Alvaro Morata leave for Italy and Juventus, meaning that Frenchman Karim Benzema is left as their only real senior striking option – and they will be keen to strengthen.
It is thought that former Chelsea and now Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s main target is Monaco’s Radamel Falcao but could turn his attentions to Lukaku if that bid fails.
