Southampton have rejected a bid in the region of £20m for centre back Dejan Lovren from Liverpool, the BBC
The Croatian international is currently on holiday after his country failed to navigate the group stages of the World cup this summer, and having built on his form from last season has prompted Liverpool to make their move.
However the Saints have rejected the bid and are unwilling to let yet another star leave St Mary’s – and are holding out for big money if they have to part company with the player.
They are thought to want at least £25m for the defenders services, who is only 12 months into a four year deal having signed from Lyon for £8.5m last summer.
However it has been reported that the player is keen to again link up with Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, who have already made the switch to Anfield.
Southampton have also lost Luke Shaw to Manchester United and while they are making vast profits on the players, are losing much of the squad that was so impressive last term.
