Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches is edging closer to a move to Roma, with the Serie A runners-up stepping up their pursuit of the Romanian, according to the Daily
The 24-year-old has recently pulled out of Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the United States after complaining of stiffness in his lower back. He has only been at the club for one season, but is keen on a move to Italy.
Roma were interested in signing Chiriches last summer with their manager Rudi Garcia a major admirer, only for Tottenham to beat them to his signature and acquire him for £7.5m from Steaua Bucherest.
However, he went on to make only 17 Premier League appearances last season, and barely featured under Tim Sherwood as the second half of the season was disrupted by injury. He also sometimes found it difficult to get into the starting XI ahead of the likes of Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen.
Spurs teammate Sandro has also been linked with a move away. The Brazilian became slightly unsettled in the second half of last season, and has also been forced to withdraw from the pre-season tour. Napoli and Zenit St. Petersburg have both been linked.
