Tottenham Hotspur could have a fight on their hands to keep hold of Jan Vertonghen after his agent confirmed there was interest in the Belgium international, Sky
Barcelona are thought to be one of the clubs keen on Vertonghen, although Mustapha Nakhli was diplomatic when the subject of the Catalans was raised. He also suggested Vertonghen would stay at White Hart Lane but hinted there would be developments in the near future.
“Several teams are interested in Jan,” Nakhli told Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad. “I cannot confirm or deny whether Barcelona are one of them. Tottenham is not a small club. It’s too soon to give them an answer. Several clubs have registered their interest in Jan. We’ll see.”
Vertonghen has been at White Hart Lane since the summer of 2012, moving to London from Ajax, where he made more than 250 appearances. He has gone on to play 82 times for Spurs, scoring eight goals, and featured heavily for Belgium at the World Cup as the Red Devils reached the quarter-final stage.
