Aston Villa are set to enter talks with Danish international Nicklas Bendtner who is a free agent having left Arsenal at the end of the season, the Daily
Arsene Wenger chose to not renew the contract of the Dane, who has struggled to make the impact at the club many had hoped after joining the Gunners at the age of 16.
Having made 171 appearances over 10 years and also spending three separate years away on loan at Birmingham, Juventus and Sunderland, he is now free to enter discussions with other clubs over a move.
And Aston Villa look ready to make their move with the club desperate to secure striking options – they are currently experiencing a somewhat crisis in the position.
Christian Benteke and Libor Kozak are out with long term injuries and will miss the start of the season while Nicklas Helenius has been allowed to return to former club Aalborg on loan.
That means the returning Darren Bent is their only senior striking option – alongside youngster Jordan Bowery.
Villa are working with a minuscule budget and hope that free agent Bendtner can provide options up front without any transfer outlay and have extended an offer his way.
