Aguero signs new Man City contract

Argentina international striker has put pen to paper on a lucrative new contract with Manchester City, The Telegraph has confirmed.

Aguero has signed on for another five years at the Etihad Stadium, with his salary a reported £150,000 a week.

The agreement comes at the end of a week in which City have committed a staggering quantity of expenditure on their playing staff, even by their recent high spending standards.

Club captain Vincent Kompany and attacking midfielder David Silva also agreed new contract extensions, while defender Eliaquim Mangala arrived for a fee of £32 million from FC Porto.

Despite this spending spree, the Blues are still within the limits imposed on them by UEFA following their breach of the new Financial Fair Play rules.

Aguero joined City for a reported £38 million from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and to date has scored 75 goals in 122 appearances in all competitions for the club.

However, injury and a dip in form towards the end of last season prompted rumours that he may have been seeking a return to Spain. Aguero refuted these claims, insisting that he is in it for the long haul at City.

“The reality seems to be that ever since I came here, during every close season, there have always been rumours suggesting that I might be returning to Spain,” he said. “There has always been this speculation, but I certainly never pay much attention to it. People hear this stuff flying around and they take it seriously, but I can tell the fans and everyone at City to relax – I’m going to be here until I see out my contract.”
