Arsenal have attempted to beat Chelsea to the signing of Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy by meeting his £10.5m release clause, according to the Daily
On Saturday, it had looked as though Chelsea had wrapped up the signing of Remy by agreeing a deal with QPR. The move to Stamford Bridge is still close to being confirmed although a medical is still to be completed, but Arsenal have provided Remy with another option.
The Blues are reportedly confident that the deal will still take place as they believe Arsenal have intervened too late. Remy is set to brought in as a replacement for Fernando Torres, who left for Milan in a two-year loan deal. That left manager Jose Mourinho with Diego Costa as his only recognised striking option.
As for Arsenal, they are looking to sign a striker after Olivier Giroud was ruled out until the end of the calendar year after breaking his tibia late on in the 2-2 draw at Everton. Remy has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and the Gunners will be hoping that he has a change of heart.
