Elche midfielder Carlos Sanchez has opened talks with Aston Villa over a possible £4m move to the West Midlands, according to the Daily
Sanchez came to attention at the World Cup, where he produced impressive performances for Colombia as they reached the quarter-finals of the event for the first time. The 28-year-old has only been at the Spanish club for a year, making 31 appearances without scoring since arriving from French side Valenciennes.
Villa owner Randy Lerner is willing to finance the deal despite having put the club up for sale back in May. The search for a new buyer is still ongoing, but the American has decided to aid manager Paul Lambert, has previously only signed players on free transfers this summer, with Joe Cole, Philippe Senderos and Kieran Richardson all coming in.
Premier League rivals Queens Park Rangers are said to have taken a look at Sanchez, but Villa are in pole position to claim his signature. They turned their attention to him after seeing their attempts to sign Swansea City’s Ki Sung-Yueng stall.
