Cech in potential Chelsea exit

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech could be the subject of a number of bids from European clubs if he fails to retain his starting place at Stamford Bridge, according to The Daily Mail.

Cech faces stiff competition for his Chelsea place this season from Belgian World Cup star Thibaut Courtois, who has returned to Stamford Bridge after spending the last three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Cech joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2004 for £7 million, and has made 479 appearances in all competitions for the Blues. He has enjoyed multiple successes at Chelsea, with three Premier League, four FA Cup, two League Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League winners’ medals to his name.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has not confirmed who will start Chelsea’s first Premier League match of the season against Burnley, but Courtois appears to be in pole position having played the full game in a friendly against Real Sociedad earlier this week.

Should Cech find himself on the bench, it is likely that he may seek a move sooner rather than later. Cash-rich French clubs Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco are said to be interested, along with La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old, who is the second most capped player in Czech Republic national team history, has two years left to run on his Chelsea contract.
