Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho, who spent most of last season on loan at Liverpool, Sky
A fee is close to being agreed for the 26-year-old, with Villa owner Randy Lerner apparently having been convinced to finance the deal, despite his ongoing attempts to sell the club. Should the transfer go through, he would join Philippe Senderos, Joe Cole and Kieran Richardson in moving to the West Midlands side this summer.
Cissokho joined Valencia in 2012 in a deal worth around £6m after having spells with Portuguese duo FC Porto and Vitoria Setubal. He made 36 appearances and scored two goals in his first season at the Mestalla, but was shipped out to Anfield last season late in the summer transfer window.
Injured on his debut in the Capital One Cup against Notts County, Cissokho went on to make 19 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, eventually losing his place in the starting XI to youngster Jon Flanagan. He initially joined as cover for Jose Enrique, only for the Spaniard to be sidelined for much of the season.
