Manchester City are still confident of wrapping up the drawn out deal to sign Eliaquim Mangala from Porto, the BBC
The £32m transfer for the player from Porto has been on the cards for a number of weeks but has still not been completed despite the speculation and expectancy surrounding it.
The 23-year-old defender was also close to joining the club back in January and earlier this summer was even inadvertently pictured in a ‘signing video’ on City’s club website.
And following his side’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the Community Shield manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he still had an interest in the Frenchman.
Pellegrini said: “We will see what happens in the week.
“Some papers are maybe missing but we continue having interest in the player and he wants to come.”
Were the defender to sign he would become the sixth addition at the Etihad Stadium this summer, following Fernando, Frank Lampard, Bacary Sagna, Willy Caballero and Bruno Zuculini through the arrivals door.
Mangala arrived at Porto from Standard Liege back in 2011 and immediately won two league titles in his first two season at the club.
He has made a total of 92 appearances for the Portuguese outfit, scoring 13 goals.
