Klose quits international football

Striker Miroslav Klose has become the latest German player to retire from international duty following their World Cup victory, The Independent has confirmed.

After the news that captain Philipp Lahm was stepping down from his role with the national team, Klose made a similar announcement after fulfilling his lifelong dream of being a World Cup winner.

“With the win in Brazil, a childhood dream came true, I am proud and happy that I was able to help this great success,” said the 36-year-old striker. “I had a unique and wonderful time and many memorable moments with the national team.”

Success in Brazil represented the perfect end to a long and fruitful international career in which Klose accumulated 137 caps, making him Germany’s second highest appearance maker, behind only Lothar Matth
