Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will be joining the club on loan until January, BBC
The 36-year-old left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season after Chelsea decided not to offer him a new contract and extend his 13-year stay. He recently signed for new MLS franchise New York City FC, but they do not play a competitive match until March 2015, allowing Lampard to make this move.
He is Chelsea’s highest ever scorer, hitting 211 goals in 649 outings for the club after joining from London rivals West Ham United in 2001. He will now take on the likes of Fernandinho, Javi Garcia, Jack Rodwell and Yaya Toure for a place in the Man City first-team, and Pellegrini believes he will be an important player in the side.
“From next week, Wednesday, he will start working with our team and he will be with us until January,” said the Chilean. ‘He is working with the squad. He will fight for his position. He knows we have a very good team, we have a lot of players in his position. He is one player more. We have a lot of games particularly with the Champions League – so he’s very important for our team.”
