Liverpool have completed the signing of Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno for a fee believed to be in the region of £12m, Talksport
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield for much of the summer, and now joins fellow Spaniards Jose Enrique and Javier Manquillo in the race to be Liverpool’s first choice left-back in the season ahead, although the former is still suffering from the effects of a long-term injury.
He has not been registered in time to play in Sunday’s opening Premier League match at home to Southampton, but will be available from then on, meaning that he could make his debut in the trip to champions Manchester City on August 25.
Last season, Moreno helped Sevilla win the Europa League, beating Portuguese champions Benfica in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw. He ended his time with Spanish club with three goals in 62 appearances. He is also a full international, having been given his Spain debut four months after helping their U-21 team to the 2013 European Championships.
And Moreno was delighted to join Liverpool, saying: “In my view, Liverpool are the best club in England and I couldn’t waste an opportunity to come and play for them. I spoke with Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and Alvaro Arbeloa and they told me this is a spectacular club whose fans follow it in a very special way.
“They all told me I can grow a lot here as a footballer as this is a massive club. I’m very happy to be joining a club as big as Liverpool. I hope to give my best and do all I can to help.”
