No substance to Vidal speculation, say Juventus

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has insisted that there is no truth in the widespread speculation linking midfielder Arturo Vidal with a move to Manchester United, Sky Sports has reported.

Vidal has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for much of the summer, particularly since he returned from representing Chile in the World Cup. Reports have suggested that United boss Louis van Gaal has been lining up a £45m offer for the 27-year-old.

Bayern Munich are also said to have been interested, but Marotta has stressed that Vidal – who signed a new long-term contract earlier in the year – will only leave the club should he request a move. “The negotiation has mostly been fuelled by the media. There has been talk of Manchester United and Bayern Munich interested in him but the facts are different,” he said.

“He never asked to leave because he had recently extended his contract with us and there were no bids. There are all the conditions why Arturo stays here.”

Since joining the Turin club in July 2011, Vidal has helped them to three consecutive Serie A titles, including a record points total last season. Overall, he has scored 40 goals in 126 appearances.
