Andre Schurrle believes Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas made the perfect starts to their Chelsea careers after the Blues got the new Premier League campaign underway with a 3-1 win over Burnley, Sky
Costa netted Chelsea’s equaliser after Burnley opened the scoring while Fabregas had a hand in all three goals scored by his new club, teeing up Branislav Ivanovic for the cross that led to Costa’s strike, playing in Schurrle for the second goal and delivering the corner converted by Ivanovic for the third.
“It was very good,” Schurrle said. “I think for Diego it was a perfect start. For a striker to come in and score his first goal is always important. He played fantastic in the friendly, and he scored. And now his first goal in competition.
“Cesc was fantastic for me as well,” Schurrle, a World Cup winner with Germany, continued. “He always had control of the game. He was always running; two assists. So it was a fantastic night for them both, but it was only the first match and we have to keep going.
“I think a player like Cesc, every team wants him,” he added. “So we are happy that he decided for Chelsea. We are happy that he is a Blue now. I am 100 % sure he will help us this season.”
Fabregas left Barcelona to return to the Premier League with Chelsea, having previously captained Arsenal. Costa meanwhile signed in at Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid, as did Felipe Luis, while Thibaut Courtois returned from a loan at the Spanish champions and started in place on Petr Cech at Turf Moor.
